From Moments to Memory

[Sponsored Review]

I like taking photos. Actually with the arrival of Bubba, we have taken loads and loads of photos to capture those precious moments of her growing up. I guess as a first child, she gets quite a lot of attention and I recall my Mom doing the same for me. I had like 15 – 20 photo albums from birth till I was about close to 20 years of age. She would diligently document my milestones and capture those moments in photographs. Perhaps that trait rubbed off and I try to do this for Bubba as a Mom now.

When it comes to organising photos and storing them, I try to be diligent about backing those photos either every month or least every quarter. This was before I found out about the existence of Memom (pronounced as ‘me – mom’) – an app which cleverly organises your photos and helps recognise what are truly the key moments in your baby or child’s life.

You are probably thinking now.. ‘Do I really need another App in my already cluttered phone with 101 other apps?

Well, the answer is probably ‘Yes!’

What can Memom do for me?

img_8148

Once you launch your Memom app, you can see only photos of your lovely moments with your family when you open your photo gallery. That’s a plus because you see no more random photos such as food photos, screenshots, or pictures that you took to remind yourself for some practical reasons. C’mon, admit it, you know this is true, we all have done that!

I love how the app is designed with families for young children in mind. The timeline is arranged neatly and helps keep track of each of your child’s progress. In addition, the Memom’s private photo sharing function ensures that your photos are shared securely with loved ones or the people who you wish to share with. You don’t need to worry about the privacy concerns that you might feel when you post photos on social media channels like Facebook or Instagram where you don’t know how your photos will be used.

What else can I do with Memom?

Apart from keeping your photos organised, another feature that I really like about Memom is that you can order prints, greeting cards, photo books, magnets and photo cases and phone cases directly from just the app.

This means that I can select the photos that I’ve stored in the Memom app and have them directly printed. Sure, I’ve used other Mobile Album apps like Chat Books and Sticky 9. With the former, I had to download their app and then add the photos that I wanted into the album. The whole process was tedious and not to mention I had those hair-pulling moments where the app hung and I had to reformat everything again. As for Sticky 9, the photos need to be stored in Instagram first before you can proceed with production of the magnets. I didn’t quite like that as some of the photos that I wanted to print were private and I didn’t want to upload them on my social media channels.

Ordering Greeting Cards

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThanks to this review, I had the opportunity to order some prints and greeting cards from the Memom app directly. I quite like the idea of customising the greeting cards because they really do come in handy for those moments where you need to just send a special someone a personal greeting. I had been quite adverse to putting Bubba’s face in print on cards for I was really worried about it going into the trash, but I guess if it goes out to the relatives or people who really care for Bubba, it would not end up in the bin. Plus, a personal message from the Bub (in future) will definitely be a keepsake for sure. 🙂

img_7952
And all it took was about 5 minutes of my time to pick the photos that I wanted to turn them into greeting cards, add them on to the page before carting out. The steps were easy and super quick to complete by just using my mobile. Shipping is free worldwide with every purchase.

img_9231All products are currently produced in the US and it takes about 7-14 days for it to be delivered to Singapore. Ours popped up in the mail about 2 weeks later. The items were packaged very nicely and each set of greeting cards are packed in separate boxes which are great as gifts as well.

img_9233Loved how our greeting cards turned out. The one on the right with Bubba and the fur-kid came out just the way I wanted it. The finishing was a matt glossy one and each set of cards came with a set of envelopes as well. As for the Sakura cards on the left, I made a mistake during the customisation and didn’t select the layout properly – gah, it was meant to be in a landscape layout rather than a portrait, so part of the Thank You didn’t appear. That said, I’m still going to use it because the picture of the Cherry Blossom is really pretty and the word ‘You’ could mean anything in any context. 🙂

Ordering Prints from the comfort of my home

img_8511We have a photo feature wall in our home and from time to time, I like to update the frames with more recent pictures but I do find it a pain having to go down to the shop at Parkway Parade to get my photos printed. With this feature on the Memom app, I no longer have to do that.

img_8508Current sizes available for print are in the classic 4R and the square print which is 12.5cm X 12.5cm. Each set comes in 10 prints and I decided to order the 2 different sizes to see how they would turn out. The classic 4R size is great for the frames on our photo wall while the square prints are great for layouts that I use to upload photos on Instagram.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAgain shipping is free worldwide and it took about 10 working days before the package popped up at our door-step. Prints were packaged nicely and not dented in the mailing process, don’t you hate it when that happens?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

One thing to note is that you can’t choose the finishing for the prints as they are all going to be in glossy finish. Also, I think it’s important that when you upload the photos to be printed, try to ensure that they meet a certain resolution quality otherwise your prints may turn out pixellated. Other than that, it’s a good fuss-free way to get your photos printed without leaving your home. Hehe..

Instant sharing now possible

When I met up with the lovely Waki (the beauty and the brains behind Memom ), she added that there will be new features that she will be launching for Memom real soon.

One of the new add-ons is the Instant share feature which you can now invite your spouse to see your child’s timelines and photos to comment on them. As a partner to the group, he/she can also edit and delete photos. You can also issue out invitations to your parents/ loved ones and create groups as an Admin so that they can all stay in touch and get the latest updates on your child’s milestones in pictures. These groups are secured (which I especially like) and kept with the Memom app, so it’s all kept quite private within the group.

Bubba goes to Sparkanauts + Giveaway!

[Sponsored review]

We have been struggling to find a gym class for Bubba for a while now. So far, we have signed her up for music classes and a playgroup which focussed more on story time, music as well as art and craft. Now you may wonder, why even bother to sign Bubba classes on the weekends when she already go to school from Mondays to Fridays?

To be honest, before we had Bubba, the Man and I said that we won’t become one of those over-zealous parents to sign our kids up for loads of enrichment classes. Not sure about eating our words now, but we found that going to these classes helped foster a stronger bond with Bubba. Not that we needed it but it was nice to accompany Bubba at these classes while we explored other methods of interaction that was supervised. Learning coupled with play was what we thought was a healthy mix at this point in time.

The Man was more interested to sign Bubba up for gym classes for he wanted to hone her physical skills more than academic skills. Well, for me, I thought it would be a great way for her to exert her energy. That way, she would be able to sleep through the night if she was running about during the gym class. Hehe..

I looked around and even went for several trial classes at a couple of renowned gym classes. However, it wasn’t what I was looking for in a class for Bubba. It was either that the session was too free-flowing (ie: not really much of a structure), too many kids and not enough teachers or the learning environment just didn’t feel too conducive.

IMG_2705I first learned about Sparkanauts through Mama Libby and was really thrilled when Steven approached us for a trial lesson for their Baby Cadet class. After going through a few trial classes elsewhere, we had in mind what to look out for if we want to put Bubba through a semester there. We knew what ticked, what didn’t and at the end of the day, we knew instantly whether we would be comfortable putting Bubba through at least a semester.

IMG_2708After our first trial with Sparkanauts, we were pretty pleased with the format, the programme philosophy as well as the teachers who conducted the class which eventually led to this 10-lessons sponsorship by Sparkanauts for Bubba. 🙂

Even though Bubba just turned one and technically should be in the Cadet class (12 – 18 months), the school decided to assign Bubba in the Cadet class (6-12 months). Reason being that Bubba is still not attuned to how the session ran, so they wanted to keep her in the Baby Cadet class and let her get used to how the session would be conducted before promoting her to the next level.

IMG_2731Here’s how the lesson is being structured to ensure that your child gets a full range of activities during the 75minute session:

    1. Locomotor Activities
    2. Non-locomotor Activities
    3. Gymnastics
    4. Games
    5. Music appreciation and movement
    6. Action rhymes
    7. Craft Activities
    8. Flash Cards

What made us want to try out a semester with Sparkanauts instead of going with other play-gyms is because we liked how the lessons are not a one-dimensional approach for the child but they are structured with focus on both learning with play.

IMG_2880Believe me when I say, if your child ain’t tired after all the above activities, you sure would be. This is where I’m glad that both the parents are able to be part of the lesson. I leave the physical part of the running and twirling about to the Man while I keep Bubba company for the other not-so-strenuous parts of the session. IMG_2884

QuickGrab Fragranced Disposal Bags + Giveaway!

[Sponsored Review]

Heading out with Bubba can be quite a logistical feat – making sure she has enough diapers to last the outing (checked), wet wipes (checked), a set of extra clothes (checked), bib (checked), water bottle (checked) – ok, shan’t bore you further. Despite prepping all of this, we have been faced in a situation where Bubba decides to take a huge dump and after changing her dirty diaper, we are left with nowhere to dump the dirty diaper. Eeew…

Thankfully, when that happened, my cousin whipped out this poo bag device that was meant for dogs and dispensed a plastic bag for me to place the dirty diaper. I was impressed with the device and subsequently got one on my own for those emergency situations.

So when Sue-Ann contacted me to ask if I would be keen to review the QuickGrab Fragranced Diaper Disposal Bags. I thought why not? I honestly found it a struggle to get nice ones in Singapore and relying on doggy poo bags wasn’t the long term solution. In fact, when we were in Perth, I found some fragranced nappy disposal bags and grabbed one back home.

IMG_9540One of the loveliest sponsored kits I’ve received! 🙂 These fun QuickGrab Fragranced Nappy Disposal Bags and Dog Litter Disposable Bags came with a sweet treat. It was a good perk-me-up for the crazy work week that I’ve been having.

IMG_9545Thanks Sue-Ann for these yummy cupcakes! It was indeed very thoughtful! 🙂

IMG_9681Now, lookie what we have.. a typical emergency situation where we had to change Bubba’s soiled diaper outside. Thank goodness for this nifty Diaper Changing station that house all our diapering essentials and we always have a spare diaper disposal bag that we tuck inside the zipper compartment. This one was an extra one that my cousin got from the mall. Yup, branded for the whole world to see!

IMG_9946I couldn’t wait to try out the QuickGrab Fragrance Nappy Disposable Bags that we have been gifted with so I took the pack out to examine the contents. Okay, a point to note – the packaging came with a perforated corner for quick access to the bags. But guess what this smart aleck decide to do? I went to cut the top of the bag instead. Argh! When I saw the perforated corner, I was like …. Oh well, nothing that a good tape couldn’t fix. So I sealed the top and used the packaging the proper way. Haha.. Thought I share this boo-boo in case you get too eager like moi and end up whipping your scissors to cut the packaging instead.

IMG_0224Ta-dah! Ms Fix-it with the fragranced nappy disposal bags that are now so much easier to retrieve.

IMG_9948IMG_9947Remember I shared that I managed to get another brand of fragranced disposal bags? Well, I decided to do a little comparison with the QuickGrab ones that I received. I most certainly prefer the QuickGrab ones for sure. Here’s why:

IMG_0158Firstly, the QuickGrab Fragranced Nappy Disposal Bag is large enough to hold soiled nappies, wet wipes and tissues. The easy-tie handles help to seal off the germs. Next, I love that the bags are scented with a light powder scent that helps to neutralise any unpleasant odours. Lastly, one most important aesthetic feature I really like about the product is that the black colour of the bag can cleverly disguise its contents.

IMG_0120See what I mean.. Sadly, this peach one can’t disguise the content of a soiled diaper. So, I’m leaving this for home use. Why is there a need to use them at home? Well, soiled diapers really do stink up the bin! So when Bubba takes a huge dump, we prefer to put her soiled diaper in these fragranced bags which seal up the unpleasant smells. That way, we don’t have to do a major change of our common household bin.

IMG_0435These are Bubba’s diapering essentials. Fragranced nappy bag is now a-must especially to contain Bubba’s soiled diaper!

IMG_0439I love the cute packaging of the QuickGrab Fragranced Nappy Disposal Bags and it’s actually pretty compact. But I don’t really want to bring along another item into my seemingly heavy diaper bag, so I usually take out a couple of pieces of these bags and stuffed them into my diaper changing station. Did I also share that despite the slightly thinner material of these diaper bags, they are naturally degradable making it an environment-friendly way of disposing your child’s soiled diapers. I now tuck a couple of these bags into my diaper-changing pack as well as the car for those emergency situations.

IMG_0441

On top of serving the purpose of disposing soiled nappies, we also found it useful to whip them out in restaurants where Bubba goes through a whole pile of wet wipes just for a meal. Instead of just leaving a trail of wipes and mess for the restaurant staff to clear, we found the bags useful to store her trash neatly. IMG_0662

QuickGrab Fragranced Nappy Disposable Bags are currently retailing at S$4.50 over at Vaby and Kulily. For a bag of 125 pieces, I think it’s pretty value-for-money for something that you will most certainly use when out with your baby.

IMG_9933Along with the QuickGrab Fragranced Nappy Disposable Bags, Sue-Ann also added a pack of QuickGrab Fragranced Dog Litter Bags for Sparky. How lucky is the fur-kid?!

Sparky goes for his walks twice a day and every time, we walk him, we make sure that we bring at least 2-3 bags to pick up his poo. Well, we ever brought one bag only and have been faced in a situation where he suddenly decides to take another dump minutes after he finished his first. One of us had to scramble home to get another bag to clean his poo. So now, we take more bags along for his walk. Side-note: dog-owners, please be responsible and clean up after your dog takes a dump.

Doggy bags are not new on the market, but I think the QuickGrab doggy bags are. I love that the bags are scented to neutralise unpleasant smells and you know how smelly doggy poo can be. I simply use the bag like a glove to pick up Sparky’s poo and then tie the handles together tightly to seal off any germs. The dark colour conceal its yucky contents and keeps the litter out of sight until I get to the bin to dispose of the item. I really think that they are the most convenient, hygienic and economical way of disposing dog litter outside.

IMG_0658

We get complimentary doggy poo bags over at Pet Lovers but they don’t do the job as well as these QuickGrab doggy bags because the handles on these bags really do serve a functional purpose. So if you wanna grab your QuickGrab Fragrance Dog Litter Disposable Bags, you can find out more where they are going to be stocked over here.

Sophie’s Star Buys: Zwitsal Baby Hair Lotion + Giveaway!

Now that Bubba is almost inching to 10 months, I think we have a couple of faves that she is sticking by for her toiletries. Being a first-time Mom, I was honestly quite clueless about the brands of toiletries available for young ones out there. Thank goodness, recommendations from friends helped. But nothing like testing the toiletries for yourself.

IMG_6508I still recall vividly when I was in the delivery ward, during the delivery process, the first thing the Man exclaimed was ‘She has a lot of hair!’. So Bubba wasn’t one of those bare-headed babies and has been blessed with lovely hair upon birth.

Processed with VSCOcam with g3 presetSomewhere between her third and fourth month, I started to notice that her hair seemed to be thinning and she seemed to be dropping her baby hair which I heard is pretty normal.

IMG_7296That’s when we decided she was due for a simple hair-cut to see if that could help to promote hair growth. You know what the old folks believe.. if you shave off the babies hair, it will promote hair growth and on top of that, the hair grown thereafter will be thicker and fuller than before.

IMG_8747Well, as you can see, we couldn’t bear to. So we simply waited out and let her hair grow. But I noticed that hair growth was a little slower than before and it didn’t grow as thick.

Around this time, my Mom passed me more bottles of Zwitsal hair lotion. She told me to apply it on Bubba’s hair liberally as it not only made her hair smell nice but it would also help with the hair growth. She swears by the product because we (ie: my youngest sister and nephews) basically grew up with the Zwistal brand. I didn’t think too much of the hair lotion and just put it aside. Until one day, I passed a small bottle on to a Mama friend as a gift for her little one. At one of the play-dates, I noticed that said friend’s little one’s hair was a lot thicker and fuller than before and I asked my friend if it was the result of shaving her little one’s hair. To which she answered, possibly. She also shared that the Zwitsal hair lotion which I passed her could also helped with the hair growth.

I was surprised at the hair growth possibilities that the Zwistal hair lotion could have, for I always thought of it as just making my baby’s hair smell nice. I don’t really need that if it’s for cosmetic purposes but the promise of hair growth? Now, that is something I definitely don’t mind trying out.

IMG_1632So I dug out my stash of Zwistal hair lotion and started to apply it religiously on Bubba’s head after her morning shower. A couple of weeks later, I noticed that her hair was slightly thicker than before.

IMG_4648I concentrated the lotion on the top of her head and hair growth was fuller. Then I noticed the bottom part of her head was kinda balding so I now put the lotion over at the side as well. Let’s see what happens.
