Casual dining in the east : Pepperoni Pizzeria

Was in the mood for some Italian and asked tweet peeps where’s a nice casual Italian restaurant that I could possibly go for dinner on Sunday night?  Imp replied and her picks were: La Braceria, L’Operetta, Pontini, Sole Pomodoro.  The only problem is that they may not be open on Sunday.  Failing which, she recommended Pepperoni Pizzeria.

Ever since photos of giant pizzas flooded my Facebook feed, I’ve been wanting to check out Pepperoni Pizzeria over at Greenwood Avenue.  Problem was that the Man wasn’t keen to drive so far for a slice of pizza.  Thankfully a quick search on google and I realised that they now have an outlet over at Frankel Avenue.  Perfect!  This outlet is pretty close to where we live.  🙂  Made reservations for dinner and secured a table relatively quickly.

Happy smells filled the air when we stepped into the restaurant for I was craving for some pizza.

The Man deciding whether to have a pint of beer or not.  I eventually convinced him to have just one beer.  Hehe!

According to this post, the one appetizer that’s worth ordering is the Fried Portobello Mushroom with Chicken and Red Wine.  But unfortunately for us, this was not available by the time we got there.  Darn!  Gotta make another trip down again to try this out.  Our server recommended us the Mozarella Fasciata Con Prosciutto – pan-seared mozzarella wrapped with Parma ham, and topped with balsamic glaze – which we thought was quite mediocre.  The slightly cooked parma ham was a little soggy and the balsamic glaze drizzled served only to bring out the saltiness from the ham.

For the mains, decided to skip the pasta altogether and delve straight in for pizzas.  Wasn’t too sure of the sizing so decided to be a little conservative and sharedthe Medium (9 inch) pizza.  No brainer for the choice of pizza.  I went for the Parma Ham and Rocket Salad pizza.  I love pizza with fresh rocket on it, somehow the greens make it a little healthier.

We ended up feeling a little unsatisfied with the serving, so the Man ordered another medium sized pizza for us to share.  I guess now that we are a little more familiar with the portion, we are going to order a large pizza with 2 different toppings the next time we come here.   The Man’s choice?  The Pancetta which is cured bacon, sliced tomatoes topped with an egg.  Hmm, nothing too extraordinary for this actually tasted like one of the skinny breakfast pizzas that we could whip up at home.

Overall dining experience?  We thought it wasn’t too bad.  Will definitely have to come back and order that supposedly amazing starter and of course, have us more of the pizzas for the crust was thin and crispy just the way we like it.  🙂
