Shop Small Saturday Market (24 June)

It completely slipped my mind to promote this communit event that I have been working with Mamas Libby and Gwen – Shop Small Saturday Market happening tomorrow from 10.30am (typo up there) to 6pm at Stamping Ground Coffee!

So by any stroke of luck, if you are reading this and are free tomorrow, please do come by and support us at the event.

What’s lined up at Shop Small Saturday? It’s an event that supports small, local and handmade shops. Participating brands include: The Little Bow Co, Tulle Love by Gwen, Pickabag, Cote Maison (featuring Bruno Hotplate SG and Bumwear), Da Prayer Designs, Sea Apple Shop and Happie Tings.

We’ve also arranged for a special workshop hosted by The Lettering Workbook for the children happening between 11.30am to 2.30pm using Stickiemail products so Mamas can all shop in peace.

It’s going to be an exciting Saturday so come by and say HELLO to me if you do stop by at Shop Small Saturday. 🙂

National Day 2016 Preview

The Man scored some tickets to the National Day Preview last week and we made it a little family outing for us all. It was a memorable one as it was Bubba’s first National Day parade and of course, the helper who had only watch the parade on the television.

IMG_6526Our helper initially wanted to stay home but we persuaded her to join us as the tickets were difficult to score and I thought she would enjoy watching the parade live rather than from the television. So she went along with us and was game enough to deck out in matching red hues for the event.

IMG_6443The happy shot with the Bub actually looking at the camera and smiling. We had fun goofing around a little before the parade started but we almost didn’t make it! I guess there’s a good reason why doors open at 4.30pm and people actually start making their way to the stadium then. We left our place at 5-ish pm and thought we had ample time to park our car, take a train and then settle nicely in our seats. Guess half of the world had the same idea!

We frantically searched for a place to park when we realised most of our usual parking haunts were already full. By the time we got to the National Stadium it was nearing 6pm and my heart sank when I saw the snaking queues to get pass security.

That said, I guess we are really quite efficient. The queue did move on pretty quickly. If you ever get to go to a parade preview or the actual parade for that matter, do not bring bottled water nor canned drinks for those will be chucked. And parents, don’t even bother bringing along your food scissors in your diaper bag. I ended up chucking mine much to the chagrin of the couple in front of me who remarked ‘Who brings scissors out to such an event?’

Bubba had a fun time going through the much talked about NDP Fun Pack which was filled to the brim with loads of goodies. The helper enjoyed dishing out the various goodies for the Bub to hold. Her fave were the butter and chocolate cookies which surprised us when she finished the whole pack and this was after her dinner, her blueberries and her pack of potato chips.

IMG_6458

Food is not readily sold at the stadium so either head early and buy those pizzas before the stalls close or bring your own. We had some tips from friends to bring food especially dinner for the little ones in case they get hungry as the parade will end about 8.30pm. So I packed a simple egg onigiri-rice sandwich for the Bub. She was obviously more interested in devouring the egg than the rice.

IMG_6462Without giving too much of a plot away, I really enjoyed bits of the parade and though the blinking LED bracelet where blinking lights were synchronised to the rhythm of the parade was pretty cool. But somehow the parade being held in the new National Stadium was quite different from the previous parade that I attended held at the Floating Platform. I missed the fly-by and the spectacular aerial display of parachuters and planes. Plus fireworks being in an enclosed area just didn’t work for me. I still think the beauty of fireworks should be way up in the sky.

IMG_6469Remember to head on out to witness this stunning fireworks display in the open. They couldn’t do this inside the stadium of course.

IMG_6455Well, the Bub did make it through the 2-hour parade with minimal fussing so I guess that’s good news for the aisles were narrow and I was worried that she would be really bored. She only got scared when she heard the gun salute and cried a little but after the Man calmed her, she pretty much sat through the show. Of course, the loud noise from the fireworks startled her a little but we managed to convince her that they were pretty little colourful stars up in the sky. She bought my story for now.

IMG_6461Guess that’s a wrap for National Day in 2016! We won’t be catching the parade this year but instead heading out with our pals for a little break! Been looking forward to catching up with these peeps of ours and praying for good health plus weather.

So have a great National Day holiday and we will catch you around with updates of our holiday from Danang! 🙂

Feel alive at the ALIVE Musuem + Give-away!

[Media invite + Give-away]

Okay, the headline sounds kinda cheesy but hey, I hope it did catch your attention! We recently visited the Alive Museum Singapore (located at Suntec City) with the little Bub in tow. Actually we made that a special trip as part of her birthday celebrations. The initial plan was to head to Universal Studios Singapore (USS) but I had been feeling a little under the weather and the Bub and I did visit USS the weekend before as part of the Company’s family day celebrations. We learned that it was not too ideal for young toddlers as she couldn’t meet the height requirements for some of the ride. So the invite to Alive Museum really did come in handy! Thanks again Serene for thinking of us and do take part in the give-away at the end of the post where we will be giving out a family package to the Alive Museum. Continue reading

Blossoms Beats & Adventures in Gardens of Wonder

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWe were at Gardens by the Bay last week primarily to check out the Children’s Festival which was going on till 20 March. To our surprise, when we headed into the Flower Dome, we were greeted by a lovely view of the blossoms – Cherry Blossoms and Plum Blossoms!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWhat a visual treat for the eyes! Apparently, it had been quite challenging to bring these different kinds of blossoms in particular the Cherry Blossoms overseas for the period where they peak in blooming is really quite fleeting. But I guess the folks at Gardens by the Bay cracked the formula and we in Singapore get to enjoy this gorgeous floral display.

I recently upgraded our camera so was pleased to be able to capture these shots (still need loads of improvement, of course).

The Cherry Blossoms and Plum Blossoms thrive in really cool temperatures so it felt particularly colder than usual when we were at the Flower Dome. It was one of the times that I wished I had remembered to pack in a cardigan as Bubba later told us that she was feeling cold. So if you are planning a trip down to catch the display, please do remember a light cardigan.

Staycation at Ocean Suites

img_1919We decided on a staycation to celebration the Man’s birthday. We’ve been wanting to stay at the Ocean Suites over at Resorts World Sentosa for a while now but the price-tag on the room was so prohibitive! In the end, we decided to splurge since it’s a birthday celebration for the Man and what better excuse than to do just that.

We brought the Bub along because neither one of us wanted to be away from her given that we are going away on a holiday real soon without her, I was worried about the severe Mama separation anxiety!

img_2057Check-in time was 3pm and we took Bubba out of school at about 3odd. By the time we reached the island and sorted out the logistics for check-in, it was about 4pm.  We were shown to our suite by our personal butler (apparently there’s a 24-hr butler service available on-hand) and when he opened the door and the little one ran in, she was super thrilled with the view that greeted her. She exclaimed loudly ‘FISH!! FISH!!!‘ We had a quick room tour and the little one wasted no time to chomp the grapes in the complimentary fruit platter we were given.

img_1890After our butler left, we marveled at the view and almost didn’t want to leave our room given that it was expensive but we weren’t too impressed with the room service menu and the little one looked like she was hungry, ordering us to feed her ‘GRAPES, GRAPES’! We thought it would be best that we settle dinner outside and for her to run around in the open then mess up the room.

img_2058So we took advantage of the complimentary buggy service and headed to the main area of Resorts World. Bubba took in the new sights and oggled at the huge ‘Universal Studios’ signage. She ran towards the gift kiosk and begged Daddy to buy her a Minion balloon. The Man nearly caved in but I stopped him. Thankfully, she can still be distracted with other methods.

img_2060Such as terrorising the cute figurines at Candylicious and the Hershey’s store! She also loved the mini shopping cart and would be visibly upset with me when I try to stop her from ramping her mini cart into other customers. All I can say is do not underestimate the fury of Bubba-hurricane! Dinner was a simple affair settled at Din Tai Fung which ended up disastrously because all the Bub wanted to do was to eat her noodles using her fingers and to fling the things she didn’t want to eat all over the place. Thankfully, no major meltdowns, she loved the underground buggy ride and squealed ‘Whee!’ all the way back.

img_2059One of the attractions of the Ocean Suite also included this indoor bath with a full view of the marine creatures right in front of your eyes. Our butler helped draw the long bath and guess which 2 people could not wait to jump inside it. The little one enjoyed the bubbles while I took in the view of a happy Father and Daughter bonding moment and the graceful rays that swam by our window.

img_1891After putting the Bub to bed, that’s when us parentals came out to play! The hotel gave us a complimentary birthday cake and we brought along a vintage bottle of 1977 wine for the occasion.

img_1851We made ourselves comfy and enjoyed the awesome view of the majestic marine creatures swimming by our window. I tried to identify them but failed horribly. The Man, being an avid diver once, did a far better job of educating me what fishes or rays or sharks they actually were. That said, we both agreed that it was very therapeutic just looking at those fishes swim by and sipping our wine in the comfort of a lovely room with Bubba fast-asleep at the background.

The flood lights of the massive aquarium goes off at about 11pm and there’s where the action happened. We noticed that the fishes, rays and sharks were visibly more active and there wasn’t a dull moment that went by right outside our personal viewing gallery. The Man and I chatted and just sat there admiring the view. We contemplated putting down the blinds while we slept for we didn’t know if it was going to be too bright in the morning. Thankfully, we didn’t. We let the schools of fishes swimming outside our window lull us to sleep and when Bubba stirred from her sleep the next morning, the first word  that came out of her mouth wasn’t ‘Mama!‘ but ‘FISH!’

img_1870We settled our breakfast at the Equarius Hotel. The international breakfast buffet spread was a simple affair but had what Bubba would normally eat, eggs, cornflakes and fruits. We walked around the grounds of the hotel for a bit and Bubba pretended she was behind the wheels of the buggy (our main mode of transport during our stay).

img_1899We were super duper lucky to have secured a later than usual check-out. Usual check-out time is 11am so we rounded up the very precious hours of our staycation by dipping ourselves in the Outdoor Jacuzzi in the living room patio.

img_1908

Needless to say, the Bub definitely had more fun during our stay. It made for the perfect birthday weekend get-away for the Man and our little family. In fact, we felt so rested and had such a good time just looking at the spectacular views that the aquarium had to offer, we thought that perhaps this could be our annual weekend get-away without physically hopping on a plane.

What a weekend!

IMG_5693Oh boy… what a glorious 4 day Jubilee break we had! Most of our days were spent with this little Missy and some days, she was really testing our patience by simply refusing to take her usual naps. But I guess who could blame her?

IMG_5694We let her soak in the festivities by decking out in cheesy red and white matching outfits.

IMG_5826The Singapore flag came almost everywhere with us the entire weekend and at every possible opportunity, the little one did wave it with gusto! On 9 August at 9am after the declaration by the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew was read and the national anthem played out on TV, Bubba waved the flag enthusiastically around the room without losing her focus on the television. That scene was simply too cute and edged in my memory. A tale to pass down when our nation celebrates SG100 perhaps?

IMG_6060The 4-day long weekend did provide us with the opportunity to head out of the country for a quick getaway and my parents had initially wanted to make a family gathering out of it. But we decided how often will we be able to see our little red dot pull out all the stops for a grand celebration? Yeah granted we’ve been talking about SG50 celebrations since 2014 and it’s kinda over-rated. But it did make for a very fun weekend just being able to soak in the different activities. Looks like our little red dot ain’t that boring after all.

On 9 August, we threw a simple dinner celebration with some pals along with a simple floral arrangement of red and white to fit the theme.

IMG_5894

Suffice to say, guess who was all knackered from the weekend of too much fun with the parentals? Well, back to regular programming from tomorrow!

It’s a SG50 celebration!

We had grand plans for the long Jubilee weekend but the rain on the first day did add a dampener on our parade.. darn… Plus Bubba didn’t want to nap at her usual nap-times, so we put her into the car-seat, went to meet our friends and ended up in at all places – Ikea – for a spot of shopping among the crazy crowds.

As for today? It rained again in the morning and I was contented going to Parkway Parade to hide indoors. But the rain sort of cleared and the Man decided to head towards Marina Bay East to check out the special aerial display by the Black Knights.

Guess who decided to take her morning nap when we arrived and missed the entire show?
Though we were not in the thick of the action where most of the crowds were at the Marina Barrage, our view of the stunning aerial display by the Black Knights were not too bad too! The sun did come out to play during that time and  we ended up perspiring loads while clutching on to a sleeping Bubba.

Kinda wished I had my camera to take proper pictures but these pictures by my iPhone would have to suffice for now. After the adrenaline-rush show by the Black Knights, we headed to Parkway Parade for a spot of lunch and some shopping. Had intended to put Bubba down for her second nap of the day but she simply refused to sleep and preferred to mess up her room instead. So we left her to be.

Again, we had grand plans – to check out the Heritage light show over at the Fullerton Hotel at 8pm followed by the fireworks at the Marina Bay area. Guess what this petit Rebelle decide to do? She fell asleep and missed all of this…

Yup! Slept through all the loud noises! I baby-wore her this time round and bought a portable fan to keep her cool. Yes, we learn from our experiences.

I guess this post is written to serve as a memory for her, that she did participate in the much-awaited SG50 celebrations together with her crazy parentals who enjoyed it far more than she probably did.

If you are wondering what else is left to do for the rest of the Jubilee Weekend, this nifty guide may come in handy. It’s so nice to be able to soak in the celebratory atmosphere so let’s see where we will end up on Monday!
