So far the trip has been rather relaxing for me, I spend half the day in the chalet on my own while the rest hit the slopes. I’m so gonna lag behind the team when I hit the slopes next season. 😦 The town is pretty small but makes for a good walk on a daily basis. It’s charming but heading to the shops and checking out all the ski/snowboard stuff just not what I was looking for. I did get some stuff for Bun, some really cute stuff which I will share later. 🙂
The Man took a day off from his extreme snowboarding to spend some time with me. Salzberg was about a 3hour train ride away from St Anton so Innsbruck was a better choice for a day trip seeing that it’s approximately an hour and a half away.
Innsbruck is the capital city of the federal state of Tyrol (Tirol) in western Austria. It is located in the Inn Valley at the junction with the Wipptal (Sill River), which provides access to the Brenner Pass, some 30 km (18.6 mi) south of Innsbruck. It is about half way between Munich (Germany) and Verona (Italy). It is an internationally renowned winter sports centre, and hosted the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics as well as the 1984 and 1988 Winter Paralympics. Innsbruck also hosted the first Winter Youth Olympics in 2012.
The town is pretty compact so we pretty much spent half the afternoon just exploring the charming and quaint town by foot. This site provided most of the infor one would need to reseach on Innsbruck if you are ever interested. 🙂 And no, I didn’t explore Innsbruck on a bike. That was purely for posing purposes.
One of the most striking features in Innsbruck has got to be The Golden Roof. Located at the Old Town, the Golden Roof is an architectural landmark that apparently must not be missed. We just joined in the fun and took the tourist shots around the place.
And we couldn’t resist leaving Innsbruck without picking up a little souvenir. There was a huge Swarovski store and museum in town. We skipped the museum tour but hit the shop for the fun of it. Picked up this Golden Retriever figure, well, simply because it reminded us of our favourite lil’ guy! 🙂
That sums up our day out of one mountain to another. Made for a restful day for the Man while I enjoyed the fresh air, being outdoors (that doesn’t involve skis nor snowboards) and the company of just the 3 of us. 🙂
