Craving duly satisfied!

For great and dependable sushi, I like to go to Shinji. And since I’ve been craving for some really good Japanese ever since we got home, the Man decided to book us a dinner at our fave Sushi joint.

Venue? The Sushi Bar inside Tung Lok’s new concept private dining restaurant at OUE Tower. At first, I got really excited but a little cautious about the menu offered at Tong Le’s Private Dining. I wondered how could Japanese and Chinese cuisine go hand-in-hand. Well, I never got the answer for upon arrival, I was ushered straight into the Sushi Bar and the familiar restaurant setting of Shinji greeted me. As I set down, I knew there wasn’t going to be any mixture of cuisine for my dinner that night and I was mighty pleased.

As with our previous meals at Shinji, we went straight for the Omakase course. From start to finish, each and every of the dish prepared by Chef Kikuchi was simply amazing! Take for instance this particular dish – I’m not a huge fan of monkfish but the monkfish liver concealed with flounder and topped with ikura tasted heavenly.

The baby shrimp topped with fresh sea urchin (Uni) was also to me out of this world. I guess it’s been a while since I tasted real fresh and good Japanese.

And just look at this Chawamushi! Not your ordinary Chawamushi, this one at Shinji was given the royal treatment with a touch of sesame, plum and then topped with a spoonful of Ikura. Decadent but superbly yummy!

One of the highlights of the meal for me at Shinji is this simple Tamago sushi. It’s kinda like dessert, eggy with a slight hint of sweetness as you bite into the smooth square bit.

And one last carbo dish before dessert – the mini chirashi don that’s packed with so much goodness! Uni that’s well-mixed with rice and topped with more Ikura. As you can guess, there pretty much goes my diet plan and all that exercise that I’ve done for the week. But for this amazing meal at Shinji, I’d say it’s totally worth it!

Our love for Jap

For our 5th year anniversary, we were mulling where we should head for dinner to celebrate the occasion.  Toyed with a couple of dinner venues but we eventually decided on Shinji.  We love our Japanese food very much and the lack of a good Japanese restaurant in Geneva left us having Japanese frequently when we went back home.

This was my second visit to Shinji but my first encounter had been unforgettable, so I was really looking to be blown away by the awesome food experience.

Again, the experience did not disappoint.  From the moment we sat down, the chef knew what we wanted and promptly worked on giving us only the best for this meal.

By the time we got to the Sushi course, I was already stuffed so I requested for a smaller portion of the rice – less carbs.  My fave was the Uni and Ikura rice bowl.. yumz!!  Portion was just nice as well..  tiny, tiny!

Needless to say, I suffered from food coma once again but it was well worth it for I know we probably will not be able to get such awesome Japanese food back in Geneva.  At least now I can look at these pictures and try to re-live those memories.

And if you are wondering what the Man got me to mark this milestone in our marriage, check this out:

A pair of crystal turtles?  Why that?  Well, the doggy ones weren’t in the right breed as Sparky and the rest of the items displayed didn’t catch his eye except for this pair of turtles which he thought had a special meaning.  First up, our love for diving and secondly, turtles are known to have exceptional longevity.  Aww… how creative! ;) In the card, he explained the meaning for selecting this gift because he knew I would give him the quizzical look when opening the gift.  I also got a BONUS gift… it’s not been purchased yet but hopefully soon.  :)
