Afternoon tea delights at Carpenter and Cook

This cool cafe (a bakery cum vintage furniture concept store) has gained quite a huge following in Twitterverse even before its official opening.  Every other review that I read on Carpenter and Cook was simply glowing and pictures of the baked goods that I’ve seen shared by tweet-peeps looked simply delicious, I knew I had to make my way down and check out the place for myself ASAP.

And so a date was set to head on down to Carpenter and Cook after my cake decorating class which happened to be around the area.  I drove but because I’m sooooo bad with directions, I thought I was either going to get pretty lost or take a long time to find the place.  Hadn’t realised that it was so close to my class and less than 10 minutes, I arrived at this pretty little cafe.  Parallel parking was ample because we chose to deliberately avoid the lunch crowds otherwise this will post a whole new set of problems for me.

Everything in this cafe screams vintage.  Love the cute and quaint vintage cutlery which brought back fond memories of vintage hunting and thrifting with friends in Geneva.  I shopped around a little and had my eye on a couple of vintage wares plus jams while waiting for my cousin and her little gal to come.

You can buy most of the items including furniture that you see in Carpenter and Cook.  We saw some really cool items and funky chairs for sale and I was so tempted to bring them home but exercised self-restraint of course.  I also understand that they have more stuff stored in the basement and if you are interested to see those items, it’s strictly by appointment only, so do give them a call before visiting.

When the cousin arrived, we went on to order our food and drinks.  Kinda difficult to narrow down which sweets we wanted.  Since I’ve always fancied something citrusy, I chose the Passion-fruit Meringue Tart while the cousin chose the Raspberry Frangipane Tart.

As I skipped lunch and was feeling a little more peckish, the cousin order the fresh-from-the-oven Peach Nectarine Frangipane Tart which I also loved as well.  Wished they made the Valrhona Sea Salt Caramel Tart the day we were there for I heard that it’s pretty darn good.  Looks like I gotta make another trip down again to specially try this the next time round.

And I wasn’t going to going to leave the store empty-handed.  Packed a Passion-fruit Meringue Tart and Lemon Drizzle Cake, 2 bottles of home-made jams and a vintage tea-cup set home.  The cakes that I chose were seriously very good!  The Lemon Drizzle Cake is currently my favourite for it’s got just enough zestiness packed in that cake.  The Passion-fruit tart was also very good, otherwise I wouldn’t bother eating 2 of the same tarts.

The slice of Tiffany blue cake pictured below is baked by yours truly.  Decided to hold a little tea-party at home for the Man to try out these sweets.  Hehe.

As for my tea-cup set?

When it’s not going to be used for my vintage tea parties that I intend to throw at home, I’ve decided that it will be used as a vintage jewellery holder to store my bracelets.  What do you think of this idea? ;)

Looks like Carpenter and Cook is set to rock our tiny island with its fab bakes and cool vintage finds.  Do check it out if you haven’t already done so.  :)
