What I wore to work in snap-shots

Thanks everyone who gave a shout-out to my ‘What I wore to work’ outfit posts!  Really glad that you are enjoying it!  :)

So, step right in and check out my work outfits for the week:

Monday:  Mondays are always the hardest IMO.  Instead of putting on yet another black/blue outfit, I decided the colour tone for the day was going to be GREY.  Hehe…  I paired this grey geometric tunic with a bejewelled necklace.  Who says you can’t mix gold and silver together?  I thought the colour combi for this pairing worked.  What do you think?

Tuesday:  An electric blue chiffon dress with a Marni tribal necklace.  I love accessories from Marni.  I usually buy them during sales as I feel that they are worth the investment for they really do dress up the outfit.

Wednesday:  Theme for the week – Let’s go to the Olympics.  Funnily, I had this dress adorned with gymnast prints for the longest time.  I probably bought it during the last Olympics (think 2008), wore it once and then stuck it in the wardrobe.  I would occasionally wonder when I will bring it out, so the theme for this week’s department dress-up challenge was perfect!  Unfortunately, everyone was buried knee-deep in a major work thing that no one bothered to dress up.  So, I guess it was a walk-over for me, except that no one really noticed what I wore.  Haha.. I guess, better luck next time for me then. :/

Thursday:  Big day at work!  Usually, I would put on a black shift dress or a black work jacket.  Well, this time round, I thought I would put on a dark green silk top with pants.  Jazzed up the outfit with my H&M for Marni white floral acrylic necklace.  The necklace was indeed eye-catching for I received some compliments from the colleagues.  :)

Friday:  Finally!!!  Ushering the weekend with this orangey-red dress from DKNY Jeans which I got on sale.  Don’t you love scoring stuff on sale?  I most certainly do!  Was going for a clean look, so kept it simple by just piling on the arm swag.

And just like that, the work week is over and another one beckons.   Anyone up for putting me through a fashion challenge for the coming week?  I’m game if the fashion requests made are pretty reasonable (ie: printed outfits / tops-and-pants ensemble/ different accessories/ colour scheme, etc – you get the hint).  Just leave a comment or email me and we’ll take it from there.  ;)

Let’s see if you can pull me out of my fashion rut…

Spot on

Sporting a new do after the curls went awry during our stay in Geneva.  It was one of the first things I ran off to do upon reaching home – cutting my hair!  Having a short hairdo seriously require a lot of maintenance but I’m used to it.  Hehe..  This time I told my stylist that I wanted a cut that would make my face look slimmer (yes, yes, I’m vain! ;p).  He went on to show me a couple of styles and explained to me further how it will work.  I guess I trusted him enough and he went about working on the cut except that  I didn’t expect the cut to be that short.  But after a few days, I’m getting used to the cut… anyway, it will grow out soon enough.

Also, loving this Marni for H&M polka-dotted top that I picked out for an afternoon of running errands before meeting with the parents for dinner.   It’s fun and cheery all rolled into one!

Yes, I’m back to taking pictures with my iPhone in front of my mirror for Wardrobe Raids.  Hehe..  Outdoor shots will likely be limited to when we head out. ;)

Happy Friday Folks.. hope your weekend will be a splendid one!  xx

Tribal Prints

As much as I love Marni, I have to admit that not all items from the label complement the wearer.  What may look seemingly fashionable on the rack/ clothes hanger, may look completely different when worn and vice versa.

I was head-over-heels with the Marni at H&M collection.  I looked hard at some of the items prior to the launch but didn’t think that some of the pieces were all that great.  The 10-minute shopping spree did stressed me slightly but I was pleased with my haul.  When I compared notes with Fashionista Cat, I realised her haul was much better.  She poked fun at me thinking that I was supposed to be the better shopaholic in this case but my buys were just average.  Well, I blamed it on the chaos at the store.

3 days after the launch, I headed back to the store to check out the Marni at H&M rack.  Turns out people do return stuff.  I guess the strategy for such sales is to basically grab everything that you could possibly get your hands on, try them at home and then return them if you end up not liking them.  Well, lesson learned.  But in my case, I got lucky the second-time round for I went through the rack and managed to try on some of these ‘returned’ items in my size. Yay!

Okay, at first, I didn’t think too much of this dress or rather robe as it was described on the H&M website, but after viewing a pic by Fashionist Cat, I was sorta sold.  Took my time to try this on in the fitting room and was pleased with the fit.  Didn’t turn out all too bad.  Bought it, brought it home and after styling it with a belt plus leggings, I was finally satisfied with the overall look I’ve put together for a cosy farewell dinner with friends.

What do you think?  I say the dress is definitely for keeps then.  It’s a fun outfit to have in the wardrobe for tribal prints are all the rage this Spring/ Summer plus I can’t think of a better way to keep up with this trend and be decked out in my all-time fave fashion collaboration – Marni at H&M.

My loot at Marni at H&M

This had been a collaboration made in heaven. It was like a dream come true for me when the fashion stars aligned for Marni and H&M. Finally something I can happily afford from Marni!

My love affair with Marni started a couple of years back. I love their accessories; they are bold and often help add that ‘jazz’ for my outfits. It’s expensive so I often have to wait for the end-season-sales before splurging on any of the accessories. So the partnership with H&M is kinda ideal for the pocket.

I waited with bated breath for 8 March to come. We were supposed to head to London on an earlier flight today but I decided to change it to a later flight so that I could make it for the shopping expedition in the morning. Woke up bright and early this morning, skies were a little grey but I figured it kinda worked to our advantage. Only crazy people like moi would go stand in the drizzling rain to wait for the store to open. ;p

We were amongst the first few to arrive at the store and was allotted one of the earliest time-slots to shop at the Marni corner. Only 10 minutes were given to us, so it’s basically grab-and-go. Thankfully, I kinda knew which items I wanted so it was a breeze for me.

Pretty pleased with my haul. There were some dresses that I really liked but didn’t feel like peeling off the layers to try, so dissed that and just went straight for tops and accessories.

And since I’ve always been a huge fan of accessories from Marni. So no guesses where bulk of my purchase went to.

Must add that the quality for the accessories is really pretty good. At least in my opinion, it’s almost as close as what you would get for a bona-fide Marni product. So thumbs up for quality control for the items that I purchased.

Aviator shades that were CHF 29.90 (SG 41.70) a pop. Prices for the Marni at H&M collection here in Geneva is slightly more expensive compared to the pricing in Singapore. But I guess, it was worth it since it was about a 2 hour wait in line and I could at least get my hand of some of the pieces.

Thought these sequined collars were all the rage now and since I couldn’t decide on either black or white, I decided to get both. ;)

The last of my loot – this oversized floral necklace that I’m loving to bits!

I even got round to going to the men’s section and getting some stuff for the Man too. Not too bad for a day of early morning shopping. Whee…

So how did you do? Did you manage to get any of the pieces from the Marni at H&M collection? Let’s compare notes, would love to raid your shopping bags and see what you ended up. ;)

It’s a jolly Christmas!

Arh Christmas, it truly is the most wonderful time of the year!  We are in a foreign land missing our dear ones and friends back on our tiny island (had wanted to say ‘Sunny island’ but I think the weather has been rainy of late).  But the festive season has been made extra special because it’s a white Christmas for us.  Watching the snow falling outside as we keep ourselves warm inside.

It’s gonna be sort of a quiet one this year without the massive merry-making (with family and friends), the sharing of joy and laughter as we peel open our presents with the clan.  I’ll miss that greatly but am comforted that we’ll be back with them next year.

So for now, I’ll indulge in a little gift-giving for myself… couldn’t resist picking up these little presents during our recent Milan trip.  At least they’ll keep me busy for now… hehe..

The perfect partnership

My heart skipped a beat when I received a message from twit-peep Pebz informing me of the upcoming collaboration that Marni will be having with H&M.  I guess the fashion world was waiting with bated breath on who H&M will be collaborating with for its next collection and I’m maaaaad excited that it’s going to be with my all-time favourite brand – Marni!

The Marni for H&M collection will be one that I cannot wait to get my hands on!  Wish me luck come 8 March 2012.  ;)

Of shoppin

I kinda feel that the ‘Retail Therapy’ Gods (if any) are looking down on me during my vacation back in Singapore.  I told myself that I wasn’t going to be shopping much this trip, afterall, there wasn’t much I could get, unless it was going to be knit-wear.  But I did manage to score some really good buys this time around!

First-up, some really cool graphic knits and tops from my favourite UK high-street fashion brands.  Next, a pair of cool navy blue sneakers from Feiyue (A French sneaker brand that originated in Shanghai and was later acquired by a French entrepreneur who gave the brand a fresher look that appealed to a wider audience).  I was going to get me a pair of casual sneakers since I was doing a lot more walking in Geneva, so I couldn’t resist jumping on the bandwagon to score me these new kicks.  Unfortunately, my online shopping experience wasn’t quite a breeze for the shoes took more than 2 weeks before it eventually reached me.  :(

Finally, the cherry on top of this all?  End-season-sale bargains from some of my fave brands.

Arh.. retail therapy really does wonders for the soul!  Hope your weekend was a happy one!
