Mad Nest

A new bar cum bistro has sprung in my ‘hood recently.  It replaced the then popular Hong kong Cafe along East Coast.  Gone are the walls plastered with memorabilia from Hong kong, in its place instead are clean white walls with paintings that are pleasing to the eye.

Min left it up to me to select the venue for our dinner.  I didn’t really want to venture too far, not too keen on mad crowds in town.  She drove and was willing to meet me somewhere in the East, so Mad Nest it was.

Most of the meetings that I have with Min are often over drinks; alcoholic ones that is.  Now that she’s expecting, she obviously couldn’t be indulging in alcoholic beverages.  So she had a freshly squeezed juice while I went for a beer to quench my thirst from the heat.

Time sure flies… I’ve known this precious friend of mine for close to 10 years now.  When we were working in the same company then, we worked hard but more importantly we partied hard too.  Plus, she’s responsible for introducing me to Man, kinda like a matchmaker .  We’ve had so many precious moments and even when we are miles apart, it’s always easy to reconnect with one another; almost like picking up where we left off and saying the things that comes to the top of our mind.   I can’t believe that she’s going to be a Mom soon!  Partying days are going to be so over for us, babe!  But the drinking days ain’t.  So whenever you need to unwind and chill, you know who to call.

Having come from a work-out, I was famished but after going through the entire menu, I was left feeling even more confused on what we should be ordering.  When Min told me they have A LOT of things on the menu, I almost didn’t believe her.  Of course I had to eat my words for the menu was indeed very comprehensive.  They seem to have almost everything.  By that I mean, bar snacks and three different types of cuisine from Thai, Japanese to Indian.  It felt like they had an identity crisis, unsure of the type of cuisine they wanted to focus on.  After a chat with our server on why the need to have three different types of cuisine, the reason came to light.

Apparently, the three chefs running the kitchen each specialised in one specific type of cuisine.  Thus, the idea to house three different cuisines under the same roof was then born.  Probably that’s how the restaurant got its name – Mad Nest.

So we ordered some wings and some mini burgers from the bar snacks menu to keep the hunger pangs at bay.   As you can imagine, they weren’t very filling of course, so we ended up ordering some cheese naan which pretty much did the trick of keeping us a little full.

Would I come back?  Maybe.  It made for a nice watering hole with a nice selection of beers and light bar snacks.  But for dinner?  I think I’ll pass.
