buys at Every Little Thing market

After a full lunch at our fave Shabu Gen and then some massive shopping done by the Man over at Isetan, it was my turn to do a little damage to the pocket!

Had planned to check out Every Little Thing – a lifestyle and fashion market organised by Public Garden over at Old Hill Street Police Station.  The Man wasn’t keen at all but he eventually did bring me there! :)

The Man sat at a corner and waited for me while I zipped through the stalls quickly to see if anything fancy caught my eye.  I’m a pretty efficient shopper when I want to be, so after a couple of minutes later, I walked away with a tea-towel (S$5) from Bits of Brit, a super kawaii Hello Kitty key pouch (not sure what’s the name of the store) plus these bluish-grey pair of Minnetonka Thunder-Bird moccasins  which I’ve been lusting for the looooongest time for only $50!

IMG_8551The event ends tomorrow, so do pop by and check out the various stalls if you wish to score either of the above items or see what others are available.

A different kind of party @ Anti-Oxidant Centre

I spend my evenings after dinner and before bedtime surfing the www and catching up on blogs – usually those that I read regularly.  Chanced upon Beverly’s post where she shared her recent experience at Anti-Oxidant Spa Centre and I was super envious of how her skin glowed after the Ganban-yoku therapy.  I was like ‘Can it really be?  After 1 session of lying down on an anti-oxidant bed, your skin could reap the benefits of the therapy?

A little skeptical but I’ve always been quite the adventurous sort for giving it a go.  So when Bev extended an invitation for me to join her at a little spa-do that she helped organised on behalf of Anti-Oxidant Spa Centre.  I knew I couldn’t say no to that!  :)

It was an evening out with the ladies, mostly bloggers and some whom I’ve followed on instagram for a while now. It was pretty cool meeting them in person and making a couple of new friends along the way.

Checkin’ out: Immigrants Gastrobar

Recently caught up with Pebz and exchanged girlie tales at Immigrants – The Singapore Gastrobar, a place that I had wanted to try for a couple of weeks now.  I’m glad I managed to convince her to try too.  Given the amount of chilli items we consumed that very evening, I wasn’t quite sure if the Man would be up for it.

IMG_4547And practically every dish that we ordered had chilli in it.  I think I might have suffered from chilli overdose and woke up with a slightly sore throat after taking in all that chilli.  But it was good fun to find another kaki to stuff our faces silly with food.

The cockles was a dish that I had been looking forward to have.  But when it was laid out in front of us?  First thoughts were.. “Darn, what’s going to happen to my nails?”  Nevertheless, we did tackle the cockles with great finesse.  The squid bombs looked innocent but when I popped one of them rings into my mouth I knew they were lethal.  Laced with chilli that was power-packed, I was thankful that I had beer to wash down the heat.

The Imp who had been here before recommended the sambal buah keluak fried rice which was really, really good.  After wolfing down the dishes, I was actually perspiring.  This hardly happens to me.  I can take chilli pretty well but to perspire while eating all these dishes when the place is actually air-conditioned and the weather outside was pouring?  Now, that’s a first!

Checkin’ out: Foodbar Dada

We were gluttons over the weekend. After the massive amount of food offered at the hospitality booth over at the Singapore Open, friends went home to sleep off after the afternoon of drinking and feasting.  But not us!  We weren’t quite stuffed but yet we knew that if we were to head home, we probably would end up hungry.  So after dropping off a friend back at his home, we detoured and headed to Mohammed Sultan wanting to check out some of the places I’ve heard but never quite got a chance to try out yet.

We were rather early, about 7pm, so decided to hop into Foodbar Dada to try our luck in getting a seat.  Been hearing about this place – more misses than hits.  Yet, I was willing to still give it a try to determine for myself.

We made no reservations but luckily, we managed to snag a counter seat for 2 with the condition that we give up the seat at 8pm.  Fine by us.  The Man and I are rather fast eaters provided if the food service is quick.

Don’t expect a huge set-up.  The place was cosy and the ambiance was lively ‘cept for the food smells that may stay on the clothes and hair after you finish the meal.

Thankfully, we weren’t too hungry else we may end up ordering everything on the menu.  Although friends warned that the offerings were limted, I thought the choices available on the menu were rather decent.  We ordered about 6 small dishes to share along with 2 cocktails and it was just about right.

Of the lot, we really enjoyed the mini burgers with the strawberry sauce.  Size-wise, it was perfect for stuffing one bite into the mouth.  The tangy strawberry sauce gave the burger a nice bite to it as well.   The pan-fried squid with eggs came highly recommended by the one of their staff.  We decided to give it a  try but were not bowled over by its flavours.  The dish smelled a lot better than it looked.  The visual feast of cooking this dish was delightful but we were sorely disappointed with the taste, it was a little too salty for our taste-buds.

I actually kinda like this place but not sure whether we will make it back as there are just too many new places to go check out.

Night shots

Taken at Gardens by the Bay after dinner.

Wished I had more stable hands to take those night shots but am pleased with how some of them turned out.

What do you think? :)

Gardens by the Bay

Took advantage of the long weekend to go visit a part of Gardens by the Bay.  The Man and I, we aren’t quite the adventurous sort in our home country.  In fact, we are rather lazy preferring to head to familiar places.  But going to visit the Gardens has been one of the things I had wanted to do, so to kill two birds with one stone, we decided to check out the gardens for a bit before going for an early dinner over at Indochine Supertree-top bistro – a new establishment by the Indochine Group.

Looked like everyone had the same idea of checking out the Gardens for the parking was full when we arrived.  zzz… parked a little further down and ended up breaking into a mild sweat when we headed towards the Supertree Grove – the metallic looking trees – at the Garden.

I didn’t quite do the math but researched and found out that there are a total of eighteen of these unique trees of up to 16 storeys in height found all around the Gardens – twelve at the Supertree Grove, while the remaining six are placed in clusters of threes at the Golden and Silver Gardens.

Of course, the highlight is to take a stroll along the OCBC Skyway, a 128-metre long walkway that connects the two 25-metre Supertrees at the Supertree Grove, and take in a different view of the Gardens.  But we were contented just hanging out and chilling out at the 50-metre Supertree-top bistro which offered the same panoramic views of the Gardens as well as the surrounding Marina Bay area.

Review of the Indochine Supertree-top bistro to follow.

Date-night challenge v2

So it was my turn to decide where we will be having dinner for our date-night challenge. Japanese was the theme for the month for it’s one of our fave cuisine. It shouldn’t be that difficult for I believe that there are plenty of good Japanese restaurants on our tiny island that we’ve yet to uncover. Problem is that the Man’s taste-buds can be quite picky when it comes to Japanese food.

So I mulled over my choices and decided to head to Nagomi. A couple of friends have been there and according to a reliable source, when Tetsuya Wakuda of Waku Ghin fame comes to town, this is the place that he heads to as well. Well, if it’s good enough for Tetsuya, then it’s good enough for us as well.

There isn’t an ala-carte menu so be prepared to just eat whatever the chef prepares. If you have any dietary restrictions, be sure to inform your server when they ask. :)

Loved the fresh Momo tomatoes that we had as a starter. Juicy and sweet, they were best enjoyed with a tiny pinch of salt.

Next up, a sashimi platter. This the Man didn’t quite enjoy. He said the sashimi platter that we had at Ginza Kurosan was much better. I was obviously rooting for my choice of dinner place, so I’m sitting this one out.

I rather enjoyed this steamed fish that we had. The broth was simple but heartwarming. The choice of fish used in this case wasn’t the Man’s fave. I, on the other hand, enjoyed it.

Deep-fried fish skin. What’s not to like? This was by far our fave which went down well with sake.

And signalling the end of the meal was the delicious beef slices that were barbecued in Japanese seasoning. Loved this one!
