A long overdue catch-up with the Imp was one that I had been looking forward to. Agreeing to a dinner venue didn’t seem all too difficult. She suggested The Pelican and I readily agreed for its one of the places that I wanted to go check out. Hey, if it was good enough for the Imp, it would be good enough for me. I trust this girl’s astute taste-buds.
The Pelican was close to the office and I gave myself 20 mins to leisurely stroll to the restaurant thinking that I might arrive a little earlier than the Imp. But there she was there, all of 3 minutes ahead of our meeting time. More friends should be like this girl, she’s always punctual.
Yes, me no like people who are always late. 10 – 15 mins is about the maximum time I would wait but anything beyond that, I guess it’s only polite to call me and let me know that you are running late due to whatsoever reasons. I’m rather reasonable if the excuse is valid.
Against Doc’s orders, I had one beer. ;p Well, it was a special occasion – a catch-up with a dear friend so of course a drink was in order. I could have more but I just stuck with one. Hehe. The menu at the Pelican is mostly seafood but they do have a few meat dishes. Went with the Imp’s recommendation of the Cod’s Tongue Casserole with roast garlic and pork scratchings. Left the pork scratchings in the pan but the breaded cod’s tongue with the roast garlic was good! The Imp whipped out her phone and started googling for a pic of how the tongue of a codfish would look like. Something popped out at her screen but she shoved the phone back into her bag and went ‘Check out the photo at home.’ Haha, I’m sure she didn’t want me to lose my appetite. [PS, I never got to checking out how the pic looked like.]
For mains, I went with the Eggplant Parcel – a baked eggplant topped with a parmesan crisp. I really enjoyed this dish for the eggplant was done beautifully and it had just the right amount of cheese. For a moment, I thought I might get bored halfway with the dish but I finished up the entire dish. Nothing was left! The Imp ordered Atlantic Linguini and Clams which she generously offered to me, but I had pasta for lunch so wasn’t really in the mood for ingesting more pasta over dinner.
And since my main was pretty light, I felt like I had room for dessert. I knew what I wanted – the Lemon Meringue Mess and thankfully, the galfriend obliged my request. Cute presentation but the lemon meringue bordered a little too much on the sweet side. The freeze-dried raspberries was good though so went eaten together, the combination of the dessert worked well.
Dinner at The Pelican was good and I definitely wanna come back here again. Gonna bring reinforcements the next time so that we can order more. What’s memorable about the dinner was the conversation with this gal. Sure, we know of each other’s on-goings through our social media channels but there are somethings I don’t put in writing on the blog. It’s nice sharing those with the Imp plus a couple of laughs in-between. This girl has been keeping herself busy with projects and I’m happy for her as she shares of what’s coming up. Can’t wait!
I even got a gift! A belated Christmas gift, she says.
Thanks again Imp, wasn’t expecting this at all. Such a thoughtful gift which I really love – a selection of classic scents from my fave brand. Can’t wait to burn them!
Till our next date!
