I never really cared for Ma Ling Luncheon Meat or SPAM much, sure I like a slice of luncheon meat occasionally with my Nasi Lemak/ Fried Bee Hoon. The helper used to make me sandwiches with SPAM for breakie which I enjoyed once in a while. Until we moved here! That’s when I found out that the groceries stores in Geneva nor France stock them on their shelves. When I finally managed to find a can of Ma Ling brand luncheon meat, I actually had to think twice whether to dump it into my shopping bag for it cost us a CHF 7.90 (SG 10.80)! Whoa!!!
So guess what came back with us when we headed back to Singapore? Why SPAM and Ma Ling luncheon meat of course? Hehe, yes, we gave up our luggage space to fill the pockets with just 3 cans of precious luncheon meat. One precious can is used sparingly and can feed us for almost 4-5 meals (dinner and then breakie for the Man).
And with the remaining 3 thinly sliced luncheon meat left in the refridgerator, I took them out and decided to make Spam Frites with it after looking at girl on the ave’s pic on her tweet feed.

Verdict? Well, this impromptu snack attack actually tasted oh-so-good-and-sinful! I served them with some mustard/mayo and sweet chilli on the side. Wished I could have more but this will do for now.
Now I must try the Ma Ling brand. Previously I usually go for Tulip. Yeah and it does go well with Nasi Lemak or rice meals
The sweet chilli on your plate looks pretty..I first thought it was a kind of tea jam.
Oh my mom used to buy the Tulip brand all the time. But the Man is quite particular about the brand of luncheon meat so it’s Ma Ling for now.
spam frites sounds so classy!!
i used to have this in super skinny strips and faux crab stick in strips deep fried into crisp and added to porridge!
super yums!!
Ooh deep-fried crab sticks? And luncheon meat in porridge? Sounds yums… gotta try it one day.
You just reminded me that I forgot to buy luncheon meat canned food. Now I’m back in Switzerland already boohoo too expensive for me to buy :’(
Oh no…. if you happen to go to London, you could get it there. It’s a lot cheaper.
